Hey, was wondering if anyone else had trouble understanding.

I am looking through the 25 must know reactions in the DAT destroyer. And I came across the Claisen reaction.

Shouldn't the Claisen Condensation reaction have two of the same reactants, in order to form its product? And not just one reactant of it?

Someone verify for me or dumb it down for me even more about this reaction.

Thank you! 🙂

A Claisen can have 2 of the same compounds or you can have a mixed Claisen in which we have 2 different esters. The mixed Claisen is only successful when 1 ester has an alpha hydrogen and the other does not.

Hope this helps..
