Hey all-
Pre-med here picking schools:
This may be a little upfront - but what schools only have class from 8-12?
Not that I like to skip class or anything 😉 , but I work more productively doing my own thing than sitting in a lecture hall for eight hours.

Thanks!

Even if a school has 8 hrs worth of lecture, that doesnt mean it's mandatory.

at Umich, at least for the M1 year, lectures are typically only in the mornings, with labs and small groups in the afternoon.

University of Maryland has class from 8-12 (including small groups). Once a week you have ICP (I think it's been renamed Practice of Medicine) in the afternoon to learn how to take histories. Also, there's pbl one afternoon a week, but I think that may have changed with this year's entering class.

At U of Kentucky, M1s and M2s have class 8-12 T, Th, and F. On M and W class is 8-12, and then a class from 1-3. Your main science courses, however are in the 8-12 block. Healthy Human and Physicians Patients and Society are the PM M/W classes.

Seems like it will work out well.

Cornell has class until 1 every day, but only an hour or two of that is lecture (the rest is PBL, labs)

UIC can top all of those schools. Not only do they have class every day from 8-12, but they also have class from 1-5.

mongo you go to UIC? which campus? i start @ champaign in less than 2 weeks

Naw, I don't. I just know it as being one of the places that has a lot of hours, along with IU, Univ of Chicago, UCSD, etc, etc.

For some God forsaken reason at NJMS we have the luxury of getting out of lab at 6pm on Mondays and thursdays. We have preceptorship til five on Tuesdays. Lab on wednesdays end at 5pm. Fridays we get out at 1pm.....funky schedule.

A typical monday is like this:

9-12-core precept.
1-3 biochem/genetics lecture
3-6 Anatomy lab

We start at 9am everyday except wednesday when we start at 10am...this is going to be FUN 👍

For our 1st 10 week block we have a lab demonstration from 8-9:30, anatomy lecture at 9:30 and dissection lab after that. Then 3 times a week we have PPS lecture from 1-3. I have been told by MS1 the rest of the time people just live in the lab. After the 1st 10 week block we start at 9 and supposedly have less class time becuase we don't have a lab.
