Well... lets see, I'll be a second year student at my university(undergraduate). I thought I'd start a group for those of us that will be graduation in 2012.

Any advice for the long yet rewarding journey would be much appreciated. How did you guys try to enjoy college life while being pre-med. I find that I have no life outside school because of the workload. Doing volunteering and being involved in school activities really doesn't reward me with any downtime where I can just relax.

1) How do you enjoy the little free time that you get from time to time?
2) If you've had pitfalls how have you overcome them
3) Tips for surviving O. Chem, Genetics.....

Thanks.

You do know that the Class of 2013 Thread is meant for the MEDICAL class of 2013, not undergrad, yes? Just making sure 😀

Yep. I knew that. The more threads the merrier!!

Class of 2012 WHOOOOOO! haha, I'm entering my second year and I already finished 1st semester of Orgo I with a 4.0. I'm finishing up Orgo II right now, probably will have 3.7+ I decided to take both in the summer, they were both 8 week long accelerated courses, (sounds a lot worse than it actually is). Orgo I I studied about 15 hrs per test, it really wasn't bad, not a ton of memorization either. But Orgo II, I've studied 40 hours a test and still got a 66% and 82% on two of them. I got a 94% on the first one, and I took one today, I have no idea if I did well or not. You just have to be able to study though, thats really all it is. Notecards and reading the chapters. And take it with a light load so that it will be your main focus.

1.) Do I enjoy free time? ummm... YAH!😛
2.) Pitfalls are expected so I don't stress over them too much anymore. I just move on and try to improve on my next step. I figured if I learn to deal with these problems now, it will be a good reflection on how I manage medical school. I also find that working with friends who also go through pre-med make the route much easier. We can coordinate and update each other on things so the overall stress is reduced significantly (supported by studies). It really makes school a pleasure since I know I am not alone.
3.) I survived ochem by simply practicing. The whole subject in the end is just memorizing a few essential mechanisms and then knowing where the electrons go. It really is made out to be harder than it is suppose to be. I actually liked it better second semester just because I was familiar with how to learn that sort of subject. If you just start ochem, I would definitely practice a lot just to make habit.
