After exams at my school, they rank the students. As someone interested in Plastics, I realize I have to be pretty competitive academically in terms of rankings so was wondering in what percentiles I should be landing in order to remain so: top 5%, 10%, 15%?

Also find out how your school determines AOA, i. e. what % of students in which percentipe are eligible
At my school, all of our dean's letters included our class rank.Class ranking doesn't matter. No one actually says "15th percentile" there is always this garbage word "Excellent, Good, Great, Satisfactory" in the dean's letter. Each school uses a different codeword, and the legend is rediculous to even consider. So, unless you are AOA, it doesn't matter.
Different schools do it differently, but if you want AOA, be in the top 10%.
For these hypercompetitive specialties, I don't think class rank matters as long as you hit AOA. After that, it's more about WHO you know and your networking skillz.

What if your school doesn't offer AOA? I have a friend trying to match right now and his school doesn't offer AOA?
