So whats the typical medical school day? A friend at Finch says that he only has class for 4 hours a day (8-12) and then a lab or two. A prof at my undergrad school who taught at USC KECK says that school is from 8-5 aday. I dont understand how there can be such a big descrepancy between schools?? I mean u have just as much to learn in the same amount of time.....so how does this work...And also...i couldnt even imagine medical school from 8-5......WHEN DO U STUDY????....thanks!!

Depends on the type of learning they provide. Some are lecture classes etc and you have more time in class. Some people don't go to class and use note services and study on their own during these time periods. Other people go to class and study all night and on the weekends 👍

Then Problem Based Learning and Integrated learning give you less class time but more application based learning with small discussions - less lecture and kinda like self-study.

My schedule for my first block that I just finished was 8am-3pm everyday except Friday which was 8am-12pm.

My next block will be 8am-5pm two days a week with the other days being 8am-12pm.

As for when do people study, that's obviously after class. My routine has been to get out of class, go to the gym for an hour, eat dinner, and pretty much study all night. I try to get in at least 3 hours a night and really learn the material from that day's lecture. If I don't I find that everything starts piling up REALLY fast and you're constantly playing catch up. When finals come around expect everyone to really turn up the studying for sure - I spent 9 hours the day before my biochem final cramming. The material in med school isn't really that hard, no harder than college science. It's just that there's A LOT of it and it moves really really really really fast. So you end up studying ALL OF THE TIME. It was hard for me to adjust to this realization. But it's definitely doable.

I'm not a med student, but Northwestern and UPenn are freakin sweet. Only a few hours of lecture per week. The extra time is used to increase a lot of lab/hands on stuff and give students a lot of time for studying/research/volunteering.

I have class 8-5 everyday except on thursdays when we go out to "experiences" in doctoring. I study pretty much the rest of my time. i work in 45 minutes per day to exercise and the rest is study or sleep. Can't wait for xmas break!

As a UPenn student I can tell you that information is completely false. That may be true for about the first six months, but that's about it. They told us that when we interviewed as well, and I feel quite frankly lied to.
