Hey guys is this too much? I will pretty much have to cram classes unless I take a year off between applying.
Fall: Upper level Bio, Cal 1, Orgo 1 with lab and physics 1.
Srg: Upper level Bio, Cal 2, Orgo 2 with lab and physics 2.

This is your souphmore year I'm assuming? so this is the norm or close to it. Besides if you can't handle that you can't handle med school.

Good luck 🙂

No actually thats junior year:scared: Im also doing genetic research too.(15hr wk)

When are you planning on taking the MCAT? You're going to need to take a lighter load than that if you plan on studying for it during the year.

Yeah thats the problem. I plan on taking it in May I guess. Will taking these classes kinda be like studying for the MCAT?🙄 I just dont want to take the MCAT late/ apply late or take a year off.

You would be going over the same material so there is some benefit, but it's not the same as studying. I wouldn't recommend it. If you MUST take these classes junior year, I would consider pushing back a year in applying so you can devote time to studying.

That is not what I wanted to hear.🙁 Do you think it would be wise to study on the side at the end of my junior year (spring) maybe on the weekends( 8hrs both days) up until the mcat. That would be five months of studying including my course work. Or is that pushing it?

as phnerd pointed out, that MCAT is kind of important. lol.
Could you push these classes to Senior year?

First semester you could probably take that many classes, but second semester (the one with the MCAT) you need a lighter load to study. you really only need one semester worths of time to study (I hear). Still, pushing everything back a year sounds like an option you'll have to consider...

With that kind of course schedule, you would probably need those weekends to study and do work for your classes. You also don't want to burn yourself out by continuously studying.

I could push a few back until senior year but would that make my app. late? I know I need these classes done when I apply.

I would not take physics and orgo in the same semester. I would recommend taking a year off between graduating and appying for med school so you have plenty of time to studying for your MCAT.

You're going to have to do well in all of those classes plus the MCAT. There's no point in rushing through it and doing poorly. Your grades are likely to be better if you can focus on one of the pre-reqs at a time. It's a lot easier to take the gap year to finish up and have a high GPA than to spend that gap you trying to repair the damage from sub-par grades you get from overwhelming yourself with all of those classes plus MCAT prep.

I think you'll be fine. You should have taken orgo your soph year. Just do the work.

Look at it this way, you've already waited this long, what's another year?

Definitely don't rush the MCAT prep. It's tempting but it usually doesn't end well. Gauge your MCAT readiness by doing a practice test and decide how much time you need to spend based on that.

I rushed the MCAT and wasn't all too happy with my score.

Is that physics with or without calculus, because its gonna be a a lot tougher second semester with both orgo II and E&M calc based.

Really? I guess it depends on your undergrad because the norm for my school is calc with lab freshman year, orgo with lab sophomore year, and physics with lab junior year.
