I'm applying beginning of next cycle and need to retake a course (chem 2) that I got a C- in. I'm a psych major but beginning of this year transferred to an institution that has a neuro department and have started taking the classes they offer and have since really had a much stronger interest in neuro than psych. There's an advanced neuro class that goes pretty deep into the discipline for an undergrad class. There's only one section taught next semester that is taught at the same time as the chem class I need to take (the other sections for chem won't work).
My problem is, is that I don't want to apply with the C- since I have a lowish science GPA already (3.1, but projected 3.3-3.4 after retake). On the other hand, this is a course I'd really (personally) like to take -- something that doesn't usually happen. I graduate after that so I won't be able to take it in the future and since I'm a psych major, I only really have the standard prereqs and not really any "upper-division" science courses (save a behavioral neuroscience course).
So, would you go ahead and apply with the C- (planning on retaking it in the summer) or would you retake the class immediately (under the premise, "hey, you'll learn it in medical school anyway!")?
