Classes with Med students??

By some in depth digging, I've found that some schools you take your first two years of classes with the med students, UConn I believe comes to mind. I'd like to stay away from med students, so can someone please tell me the schools where the classes are separate versus those where they are together?

try not to let the meds intimidate you. they are by no means cooler or smarter. their workload is not larger too. it is good to learn how to get along with them because they are going to share a hospital with you in your GPR or OMFS residency.....

I know that UMB dental students don't take their classes with the med students. I think that is the same with UPenn but I maybe in error. Call the schools that you are interested in applying and someone can probably tell you.

By all means don't be intimidated by med students.

Nova takes some classes with DO students.

Tufts is a good choice if you want to stay away from med school and med students....they put a lot of effort into designing a very seperate dental curriculum. In fact, for when you make hospital rotations, they hired a SEPERATE dental-based hospital rep to take you around, and apparently you're never there when the med students are.

A lot of schools are somewhere in between, where you share some resources (like gross lab or large lecture classes) but dental students are still tons more kickass with their own oral studies 😀 😀

I was talking to my optometrist the other day who seemed generally dissatisfied with his work, telling me how dental students at Nova take a few classes with optometry students as well. Basically told me that they beat the dental students all the time in terms of grades, and how it was not fair that they would make more than him in the long run. Sounded like a cry baby.

It may have been due to the fact that the dental students didn't have as much time to study with their greater workload.

Its just strange that he thinks that good grades should somehow equal higher salaries. This is sometimes the case but it isn't a univeral law or anything. Depends on what you peddle and how you peddle it.

While it is true that a lot of schools combine their dental and medical students in some classes, the ONLY schools that do so for every didactic class are Columbia, UCONN, and Harvard.
