Hey Folks,

I'm a nontraditional pre-med student planning on applying to a few postbacc premed programs over the next few months. I've heard from a few friends that most schools recommend taking math classes through calc 2 in order to prepare for medical school. However, math classes are not covered in any of the postbacc programs I'm considering applying to. As I'm on a budget and a fairly good independent learner, I'd like to take the CLEP exams for some math courses (specifically, pre-calc and calc) over the next few months instead of forking over the time and cash for a few classes at the community college. Does anyone have any thoughts on how this might affect my chances of getting into medical school or the postbacc programs? I am only looking at CLEP exams for math classes, and nothing else. Any advice would be appreciated.

calc 1 is required for a smattering of medical schools, perhaps a dozen in all (?) last i knew Harvard, Hopkins, and WashU were the only ones that required both semesters. I'm not familiar with any other programs that even recommend taking calc 2 beyond those three. stats is a more common recommendation/requirement.

no medical schools will care if you CLEP a class or not. it won't hurt you, but they won't count it either. AP credits are generally ok for math, not for science prereqs.
