I was wondering if I could clep out of trug and calculus. If cal is required for med school do u have to take the class or can you clep?

I clepped out of the first year of Bio Lecture (i.e. life science Bio). My school granted me school credit for it (6), so I assume it shouldn't be a problem for med schools. Am I accurate here?

I am planning on applying to UT-Houston and it says Calculus 1 is a requirement. So if I clepped out would I have to take the course anyways?

Email or call UT-Houston. I have done that to some schools and they are very nice about it. Just explain your situation.

Bump for someone who knows about clep on transcripts.

Yes and No. CLEP tests are recognized to be significantly easier than AP tests, so fewer schools grant credit for them. Also, I originally thought that med schools never recognized CLEP credit, even if your Ugrad school did. But I looked through the MSAR and realized there are a handful of schools that do. Lesson: just be careful and look through the MSAR, see which state schools you have and what they accept. Make decisions from there. Usually, taking an upperlevel course is a good idea.

Thanks that was solid advice. I think that what I am getting as that the school gave me credit on my transcript pass/fail for the bio series. So is that still considered CLEP credit? And I still plan to take biochem later on, with another course... but then do THOSE count towards a general Bio requirement?

Where can I get study materials for CLEP? Has anyone taken a clep test? What is the format and are they hard??

It really depends. Just because your Ugrad gave you credit, doesn't mean a med school will recognize it. P&S, for example, does not accept ANY AP credit towards prereqs, but can "waive" the requirement at their whim. Check with schools. If your Ugrad gave you the credit for the CLEP exam, it is still considered "CLEP CREDIT". It should count towards a bio major or general graduation requirements, but it is best to take an upperlevel course or two. Biochem is a great choice. Why not throw in immuno or micro too?
