It is a typo, but it looks like it should be Pp x Pp according to the text above. PPxpp will give you only Pp. They briefly stated this in the small paragraph with the sentence "Suppose you were asked..."

In the next paragraph, they talk about crossing PpxPp. Their result is 1/4PP, 1/2 Pp, 1/4 pp - This is expected in Pp x Pp.

Also, I think they meant "To find the F3 generation, cross the F2 offsprings with themselves." They would also have to relabel the Figure 7-4 to "F3 Generation"

wouldnt the parent generation have to be PP x pp since they used Pp x Pp for F1, so they assumed all of the F1 gen is Pp so the parent gen would have to be PP x pp..... right?

Okay, I think I understand where they made their mistakes now, though there's no way to be sure which path they wanted to go. There are 2 I believe.

They are working with a new example in the paragraph "Suppose..." and on. Assuming this, Figure 7-4 is not connected to Figure 7-3 at all.

Here are the mistakes fixed in bold.
"Suppose that you were asked to find the frequencies of the f1 generation for the cross PPxpp.(So they are calling PP and pp the parent generation.)" -This fix makes sense because their next sentence talks about the resulting f1 generation.

Then in their "P generation", it should be PP x pp. So you were correct! I just got confused.
