Hello everybody, 🙂

First, let me say these forums are incredibly helpful. I have been reading the posts for some time know and they have answered many of my questions. I have a concern, I am interested in MD/PhD, but don?t know how bad the fact that I currently lack clinical experience will affect my chances. +pity+ I have 3.95 GPA, (five year program, Industrial Biotechnology = ~ Bio and Chem Major + Chem Engineering minor) will take the MCAT on August :scared: , have done summer research programs at WashU Med and Harvard, have one publication and will spend one semester doing research at an industry.

I plan to do volunteer work next semester while doing the coop, but that will be around the same time I will be applying. My profile is obviously skewed towards the PhD aspect, is that actually too bad? 😕

While it's a safe bet to have some clinical experiences, I know many successful applicants who did not. My roommate for example, I don't know if he did anything clinical before coming.

Don't worry too much about it.

The fact that you have a clinical experience lined up is very good. Because otherwise, your stats seem very impressive. Just keep in mind that you may have trouble getting into some schools, particularly your state school(s), if you are too focused on research. Of course, this is only a problem if you are applying for straight MD programs or if you are deferred to MD admissions if you do not gain MD/PhD admissions at a particular school. However, for MSTPs you should be fine as Neuronix says.
