Clinical Hours?

Hi. It depends on what you are doing. What are your main responsibilities as an EVS technician?

I would say probably not because the actual patient interaction is minimal, and I also don't think it will give you the kind of insight into a career in healthcare that more typical clinical experiences like scribing, MA, EMT, CNA, etc. would give you. But honestly you could probably get away with listing it as clinical.

This position is responsible for performing general housekeeping tasks to maintain the facility and associated buildings in a sanitary, safe, and attractive condition and to meet hospital and Joint Commission standards. Not much patient exposure.

Thank you, I will see if I can find something else.

Based on this, I would suggest a more patient centered role for your clinical hours. Beyond needing the patient interaction for your application, your experience will help you create your narrative for "why medicine." Good luck!

It is clinical if you are cleaning patient rooms while the patients are still in them and therefore meeting my definition but, sadly, this role is not likely to get much respect from adcoms.

You'd be better off doing some clinically based volunteering for a few hours per week for a year or more (emergency department and pediatrics are popular sites for this kind of patient facing volunteerism) and take whatever job pays well if you need the income. Being a hospital janitor is an essential role and one that got harder to fill during the pandemic but the reception you are likely to get from adcoms will be similar to what you've received here.
