My boyfriend just discovered the Clinical Informatics Fellowships. He is a second year FM resident. Anyone with insight into them. What is job outlook? Worth the time?
It's a relatively new field. I believe starting in 2015 you have to do a fellowship in order to sit for the boards. The intersection of medicine and IT is a hot field and will continue to be one as more systems continue to leverage IT.
I think doing the fellowship positions you to become a champion in the clinical setting and could also set you up for industry work as well.
I'm going to start a fellowship in July and am super excited. You can certainly PM me for more details.
Sounds horrific to me lol but I agree it's a blooming field ripe with opportunity. My much more mathematically-inclined sister did her RN PhD in Medical Informatics focused on Neonatology and has done great things with it. When she starts talking ANOVA my eyes cross but if your boyfriend enjoys this stuff I say more power to him.
Smart move honestly.
He'll probably be able to have a nice balance between clinical and admin duties
-EMRs in general suck and are convoluted messes
-EMRs are not going away
-Since there is always room for improvement, he should do well in the future
