A friend of mine sent me a link she stumbled upon for clinical psychologist positions available at the CIA. The description on their webpage seems pretty broad and general, and I didn't know if anyone had any experience or information about working with them. The pay is competitive, and I'm sure it comes with paid vacation, medical benefits, etc.

When I saw the link, an image of James Bond administering a Wechsler assessment popped into my head, and I thought for that alone it was worth posting

I'd wanna make more than that to live within the beltway.

Live outside it and take the train, or see patients on weekends. That is, unless they have you working as an operative on Saturdays.

Bond doesn't take public transportation...

Does this position require international travel for possibly extended periods of time (Iraq, Afganistan)? Some of the federal government jobs (like FBI) can also re-locate you at any time and many FBI agents were sent abroad for extended period of time during the wars even though it was never in their job description. Also, would you be participating in water boarding or other types of shady activities? Psychologist for the CIA does not mean that you will be sitting in an office in DC for that matter. The employment contract may indicate that you can be "deployed" internationally at any time. I'm not sure if this is one of those positions. That's why the pay may be high for a psychologist.

Job description states: willingness to accept a variety of assignments. What do they mean exactly? Are we talking interrogating terrorists? Being deployed to dangerous war zones?

I'd certainly consider a job like that. Money isn't everything (except on SDN).

Safety and your own morals may be more important though. It's not clear to me what "Willingness to accept a variety of assignments" exactly means in CIA terms. This is the type of job where the government basically owns you (kinda like the military).

I guess that is where we differ. I am morally flexible so I believe I could do a job like this. 😀

If you are willing to work for the military or CIA as a psychologist, then you will do well with the job market. Vast majority of psychologists do not want to be deployed or have to re-locate.

Exactly what I meant.
