I am trying to get any kind of research in before I apply to med school in the spring. I found a list of research studies at a local hospital. Each study is briefly explained and then the PI is listed. Do I have a chance of getting in with one of these? Do I send a nice e-mail to the doctor (if I can get directly to them?)?

I have clinical research experience at my university. For this particular position, I sent an email and as a result, he was quite responsive. He subsequently set up an interview and a tour of his lab. You would be better off doing exactly that. If not, a phone call may be adequate in case they have special instructions for interns.
