It seems the cme credits from the aba website are expensive. Does anyone know of any non-fee websites for anesthesia level one cme credits.

I was also looking for the cme requirements for the state of new jersey. Does anyone know what those requirements are. I tried googling the information but couldn't find it.

For NJ requirements: http://www.nj.gov/oag/ca/bme/education/contedu.htm Basically it looks 100 hours every 2 years, of which 40 hours must be Category I. They define Category II as "informal medical education." Since it doesn't need to be documented, I guess reading journals/textbooks etc. counts. Apparently for Category II all you have to do is sign an attestation statement.

We have to ACE or SEE as well as ASA approved patient safety CME.

Other than that, if you are in an academic program your grand rounds will probably count for CME. They did where I trained.

If you attend conferences, you can get CME there.

Anesthesiology News offers articles for CME. I assume they are free but haven't had to use them yet. They have a website. Google it.

I usually get emails from CMEZone or something like that. Every now and then there is something anesthesiology related. Google it.

CME from journal articles may be free if you are a subscriber, but even if you aren't, they shouldn't be that expensive.

All these little credits add up. Hope this helped somewhat.
 
Cleveland clinic online cme. Also try medscaoe. There are so many free cme online courses out there. You just have to google them. I actually 12 free pain cme at the official AMA website last year and you don't even need to be a member.

It's takes some searching but they are out there. I have claimed more than 150 free CME online the past 3 years.

The ASA CME see and ace are expensive if you are not a member like $800 for 60 CME. But come on. You are an attending. Time is money. Just pay the $800 for 60 CME and be done with it. $800 is less than one full day at work for most full time anesthesiologist.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. Do you think timewise the ACE CME would be most efficient? Its not the expense, I am just tired of being nickeled and dimed in medicine as I progress through it.

Secondly there were a few other requirements. What do you do for the simulator course?

Also, what do you do for the project?

Hopefully I passed the oral boards, so I was just looking into MOCA requirements.

A brand new change in 2010 involves mandatory ACE or SEE CME (can't remember how many cme are required) for all board certified anesthesiolgists certifed in 2010 and forward.

So you won't have a choice.

Wait till you get your board results prior to signing up for CME cause the ABA won't retro actively grant you CME you obtained prior to board certfication.

Yes it sucks to be nickled and dime by professional organizations. Just to maintain an active medical license in Tennessee they hit me with a yearly $400 professional privilege tax. Florida hits almost all Medical Licensees with a $250 yearly for a NICA fund. Lots of bogus fees and frankly it's purely a money marker for these organizations.

But the SEE or ACE program is a lot of CMEs. 60 will take care of everything for one to two years. Some times it's a pain in the butt to keep searching for CMEs that are free online. Hoepfully you can write off the CMEs as a business expense? Of you are a W2, your employer usually should give you a $3000-5000 CME allowance yearly (if not you need to have them add it into your pay package)
