I know the poles cancel out so it should be non-polar. But Cliffs bio AP 3rd edition states "Only small, uncharged, polar molecules (such as H20 and CO2).... free pass across the membrane". My man Cliff is saying it's polar.
So which is it?

Water is polar because it is not Planar, it is bent, so dipoles do not cancel.
However, CO2 is non-polar because it is linear.

Hope this helps.
