Greetings everyone,
This is an inquiry about COAMFTE accreditation in MFT doctoral programs. Although this is the Clinical Ph.D/PsyD forum, I am posting this thread here because this is the only forum for doctoral studies in psychology.
I am considering continuing my education once I finish with my MA in Mental Health Counseling, to pursue further training in Family Therapy. The thought of dual licensure is interesting, but I am considering this more-so because I am very interested, and would like to focus more on work with (family) systems (incorporating it with my work in addictions, etc).
My question is, what might be the benefits of seeking formal training in Family Therapy after I have already received a counseling MA? That is, other than learning more about Family Systems.
It seems that there are very few Ph.D programs that are actually COAMFTE accredited. Other than being able to work for the government as a counselor/therapist (my current program is CACREP accredited, so that is covered), what other benefits may there be to attending a Ph.D program that has COAMFTE accreditation? Some schools, such as Drexel, do not.
Thank you for taking time to read this. I look forward to talking about this more.
Best,
Tony
