So I am wasting my time instead of studying for my patho final and was wondering if you guys could help me out 🙂 I want to buy a good thermos/coffee mug that will keep my coffee warm for at least a few hours. I have a bunch now that only make the coffee last about halfway through my first class. Anyone know of a good brand/model?

Hmm...I'm guessing CanadianGolden might have some ideas. I got the impression from another thread that she and coffee (specifically Starbucks) are in a long term, very serious relationship. 😉

I also have a coffee problem (at least my wife says so😀). I ordered a Nissan Leak proof backpack bottle last week and it should be here tomorrow. For me the selling point was having a leak proof bottle that you can drink out of without having to use the lid as a cup. All the reviews say it keeps coffee hot for hours. If you want I will let you know how it does when I get it.

That would be awesome, its exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I like the leakproof part as I am extremely clutsy (sp?) and tend to spill things all over me, plus not having to drink it out of a cup, because once again, that increases my chances of spillage, haha. If you don't mind letting me know if it works that would be great :hardy:

OXO makes a stainless steel travel mug with a push-button top. It has kept my coffee warm for up to 6 hours and has never leaked. I think I paid around $20 or so for it, and it's been worth every penny...

Technically my relationship is with chai lattes, but close enough, right??

All I can tell you is that I have a mug from my undergrad, and I microwaved some leftover chai and put it in this mug and closed it, and like an hour later I tried to take a sip and horribly, horribly burned my tongue...like it felt raw and painful for a few DAYS. Sadly, I cannot advise you on how to get a mug like this, but I can sell you mine for the very reasonable sum of $50. 😀

I've heard these nifty metal ones are good...let me see if I can find the website...

Ah, here http://www.reusablebags.com/store/reusable-bottles-sigg-bottles-c-19_33.html

Maybe they have an insulated one? They ARE awfully cute.

Ah again: http://www.reusablebags.com/store/stainless-steel-thermal-bottles-c-19_25_26.html Thermal bottles.

Mmmmm - i really don't drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages but chai lattes are amazing! Im right there with CanadianGolden! 😀

I have had a lot of luck with those Thermos (or similar type) containers that they sell at outdoor and sporting goods stores - they are an absolute life saver (or in my case grade saver). The ones I used are stainless steel and insulated. They're not the best looking, I know, and kinda bulky, but if you're going for function over fashion, they'll do the trick. I don't remember where I purchased mine, but I'm looking at it now and it's a Thermos brand. It has a regular "drinking" type top and a black plastic cup as a top. It holds the equivalent of 2.5 cups of coffee for me, but they do make bigger ones.

As for the million-dollar question, I fill it up at 8am and it stays hot or very warm throughout the day, where I work in an antartic-like office, and through my evening class which ends at 8pm (which is an antiartic-like lab ). By then it's not hot, but it's definitely warm. It stays hot-hot until about 6pm-ish. The cool thing is it works the same way for ice-cold drinks! I work on Saturdays in the heat (I'm in TX, to give you an idea) for 8 hours at a mobile wellness clinic and it's still cold by the end of my shift. Don't remember how much I paid for it, but I think it was kind of expensive, because I remember freaking out a little about the price - somewhere in the range of $50 I think.

Hope that helps! (Sorry if I sound like a Thermos commercial, but I get excited about sharing this type of info with others 😀).

Yes, these are the best. Keeps my espresso hot and my water cold. 😀

As far as chai latte goes, I had one at Panera and it tasted to me like what I would imagine potpourri to taste like. I don't think I'm a very big fan of that. I either need my mocha latte with soy milk and a double shot of espresso or my green tea (raspberry is good too) to function properly. 🙂

I can only really help you out with what ones not to buy!

I have a bodum insulated cup. It was a total waste of money and doesn't even keep drinks that hot for even half an hour! I don't get the slogan 'give up bad design for good' because I think the mug is very poorly designed. It looks cool though being through.

I also have a kathmandu thermos. It is ok but it doesn't pour very well and always drips some down the side of the container.

I have been lusting over a Stanley thermos for ages! 🙂

Oooh... Have you seen the Starbucks Chai Truffles? A bit odd at first, but definitely one of my favorite chocolates. 🙂

what a great drug caffine is! i have always felt that caffine was like Substance D from that Philip K Dick novel, where everyone is walking around all doped up. i'm weird

I had not heard of those...I will have to try them - what could be better than chocolate with chai? sounds a bit weird but good at the same time!

You might have had a vanilla chai. Those are gross. The only good chai is classic spiced (indian) chai. The ones at Starbucks are actually quite good despite being made from a mix and not brewed. My mom made me some authentic spiced chai (her friend gave her the recipe) and it tasted about the same. Chai should be spicy, not very sweet.

My chai has to have some chocolate in it...wee bit of milk, lots of sugar. I like the stuff by Celestial Seasoning, but I haven't dared branching out much else. I remember the first time I had a chai latte. It was awful and tasted like an overly strong pumpkin flavored candle. But now I don't mind it as much now. As long as there is chocolate involved with coffee or chai, it's all good.

Speaking of beverage bottles, I just picked up a non-polycarbonate (supposedly) bisphenol A free Sigg bottle and am loving it. Here's the design.

The only thing I wish I could change is to make the mouth bigger so it's easier to add ice. But it seems like it keeps stuff pretty cold for quite a while!

I loooove my Sigg bottle! However, I only use it for cold beverages. I've heard they aren't that great for coffee and warm drinks.

Well I finally got my Nissan Leakproof Backpack Bottle after Cabela's had some problems processing the order. I have not had a chance to use it much yet but so far I have been very impressed. The lid is easy to open and close with one hand. When the lid is closed the bottle is leak proof, even when left on its side for extended periods of time. The bottle is also very comfortable to drink from. What has impressed me most is the heat retention. I heated water in the microwave and poured it in the bottle then closed it up and left it overnight. When I put the water in it was 209 degrees, 10 hours later it was still 154 degrees! That was without even preheating the bottle at all. Even after 24 hours the water was 115 degrees which while not hot is still better than cold coffee.😀

I would definitely recommend getting one👍

I also bought this thermos after seeing recommendations from SDN... and I LOVE IT!! I brought coffee with me to work today... it was so busy that I didn't really have time to drink very much from it.. after my 10-hour shift, I took a sip of my coffee and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was still hot!! Pretty darn amazing I have to say. And I REALLY love the button to open the top...

When I got the thermos and was using it for the first time, I was driving to work. I was on the freeway and popped the lid open with the button without using my other fingers to slow down the opening of the lid. I ended up splattering little coffee drops all over my steering wheel... Easy problem to adjust however! I simply use my index finger as a backboard for the lid when I pop the lid. Still only takes one hand to do and very easy to drink from!
I'm definitely in love... with my thermos!! 😍

I foresee lots of uses as I become a vet student in the fall. 😀
