Has anyone attended the URP at Cold Spring Harbor? I am very interested in working there this summer and I would like to hear some feedback from those who have participated, if any. Moreover, for those of you who've matriculated into MSTP or MD/PhD programs, do you believe this experience was a boon for you in the application/interview process?

Hi! Can't say I know anything about the Cold Spring Harbor program exactly, but I did one at the Marine Bio. Labs in Woods Hole. Very similar arrangement, probably basically the same thing. (CSH is even better known than MBL, though), and I think it did me a lot of good on interviews. Make sure it's a real research position and you'll actually be able to get something done, though (I'm pretty sure it is, but check... I knew a few that scrubbed a lot of tanks.)

Thanks for the reply. I think Cold Spring Harbor's program is pretty serious. From what I could see on the website, it is expected that you come ready and willing to work very hard in someone's lab, and not just scrubbing test tubes. I am glad to hear that you had a favorable experience at Woods Hole and that your time there helped you out at interviews.

I looked over the website a few months ago trying to find summer research positions for my sister and CSH looked wonderful. I went there when I was still in high school for a field trip and it was really great - they had some really advanced technology and were really great at explaining things to a younger crowd. I would assume their research programs would combine a similar level of technology and education.
