How important is the collateral circulation part in GI in FA (Pg.340). I cant seem to understand that part. Can someone plz explain what they are trying to say.

It just means that the arteries are connected and therefore create a collateral/connection.

Artery from one area <---(connected supply)---> Artery from another area

So if you formed a clot in the internal thoracic artery, then portions of the superior epigastric artery (blocked via internal thoracic) could be supplied via the inferior epigastric (via external iliac) connection/collateral.

This is a fundamental topic, maybe you don't understand the terminology?
