Hi all,

I'm out trolling for some information on some various Universities in planning my next move.

Does anyone have any favorite sites for student reviews on colleges? I tried StudentReviews.com, but their stuff is pretty slim and a bit dated.

I know that these reviews/comments aren't necessarily accurate, but if I see a big trend in the comments that bugs me, I can always look into it further. Besides, some of the comments are pretty funny....

Thanks for any help!

Best,
Oldie

I don't know about specific universities, but ratemyprofessors.com has some interesting info on professors. It's free too.

What are you looking for in a university? Proximity vs. reputation or solid pre-med/post-bacc program?

Maybe if you could give a little more info, like location you're looking at, type of study you're interested in, etc. we can give more info.

Hi 'boo,

Nothing specific. I've been working on my pre-reqs for vet school for UF. So far, I've done very well...not to jinx it, but so far I've got a 4.0, including A's in Genetics, Microbio and Orgo I.

But because of my undergrad grades from back in the day, this is a long shot for me, although hopefully if I can finish up my 2nd undergrad degree near 4.0 in the last 45 credits. This, along with a decent GRE and a 4.0 in a previous Master's (plus some TAing and research I'm currently doing), it makes it only improbable, rather than totally impossible.

But to be honest, thought, even if I lay down a 4.0 in the last 45 credits/pre-recs, roll a 1250+ on the GRE, rack up some serious animal care and volunteer time, chances are I won't make the cut...although being a non-trad male when %80 of the applicants are <25 YO female might delay them depositing my app in the circular file for about 10 seconds.

With that said, I'm looking at some fall back plans, inclduing a PhD in chemistry or maybe even DO school. Being semi-retired, I can go almost anywhere, and I was just nosing around for info.

Thanks for the interest....

Best,
Oldie

If you're just looking to finish up your degree, then go where you feel comfortable and fairly certain you will do well. If that means staying at UF, then so be it.

I'm not sure what considerations vet school admissions take as far as grad programs, but I know a lot of med schools look at upward trends.

You sound like you have a plan in case you don't get in, so I think what's left is to finish the pre-reqs and do well on the MCAT and you could have a better than improbable shot of at least getting an interview. I don't know your undergrad grades, though so I can't comment about that.
