Can you guys help me with my college essay? If yes let me know and I'll post it. I just need opinions. Pretend as if you were the admissions guy / girl and let me know what you'll think.

I did really horrible on my SATs. The two sections that matters to anyone came out to 970. I applied to four schools and for 2 of them I'm really close to the range and they have an acceptance for kids who are below 1000. Should I re-take or should I just send it as it is? I want something better than community college. I have decent GPA and decent class rank. My extra curriculars are crap but I am highly active in my church.

Also I read into it that rather than doing the usual 4 you can combine and do 6 in college and shorten the years to become a physician. Does anyone have any info on this?

I think that you need to raise your SAT score for sure. Also, beef up your ECs ASAP from no w on.

Do the schools you're applying to accept SAT scores taken after December? Also, I highly recommend you send your scores if you haven't already.

I'd suggest (if private schools) you ask for an interview with the admission committee to explain your SAT scores and other possible academic mishaps etc.

Participating in church is an extra-curricular I wouldn't necessarily call it "crap."

The 6 year combine program you're referring to is probably one of the BS/MD or BS/DO programs. Do a little searching you should find quite a few threads on them.

Do NOT post your essay in a public forum. That means people can copy it and if a plagiarism scan is run your essay will show up.

You might want to consider SAT-optional schools if you don't think your SAT can be improved and your grades don't match with your scores. The programs you're talking about are BS/MD programs (the 6-year ones are quite competitive) but you would need high SAT scores to have a shot at these programs.

Also, you might want to change your status which is currently listed as MD/PhD student when you're not. I think it might be against TOS.

You will need to raise your SAT scores alot in order to get into an BS/MD program. In order to get into a program like that I would say you need around a 2100 on the SATs which means a 700 in every section. These programs are pretty competitive.

However, you should retake your SATs in order to get yourself into a good school.

As for the essay, do not post it online, somebody else will just end up copying it. And don't worry about the essay too much, I really don't think they play that much of a role in admissions into an undergraduate college. One of the colleges I applied to required an essay and I pretty much wrote the whole thing in 10 minutes, mailed it in and then got an acceptance letter a week later. However, with your SAT scores, your essay may play a bigger part in your admissions.

Also, you can sign up for hSDN using the link stickied at the top of this forum.

It sounds to me like you won't be competitive for combined BS/MD programs. Get that essay edited - I'm sure there will be some volunteers in this thread - and go through college in the typical fashion.

GET recommendation letters!!!! Especially from the principal or teaching staff at ur school/church! That'll definetely boost ur chances in getting to the college u want. I think that might make up the extracurricular activities you didnt do. good luck man.

Having recs alone doesn't mean it'll help. They have to be good. Also, many colleges require them for everyone.

I sent two letters of rec. I sent my SAT scores and essay to a school I think I got a good shot at. I'm debating on whether to send it to the other 3 schools or not. I don't think I stand a chance with my first choice school. But you never know.

Theres a website with forums where you can post essays. Even if they do the plagarism scan, your name will appear on the essay so that it doesn't matter. Its safe for you, its not safe for the others that plagarize.

Im not sure if you can do it here.
I guess if you state your name and paste your essay we can see it.
Its all at your own risk.

I got an email from one of the schools asking for INC status documents. Is that a good sign? :xf::xf::xf::xf::xf:

Plus I got an 18 on my ACT is that good?

Take the ACT if they accept it. Its way easier than the SAT.

I took the ACT junior year and got a 31 on it. I took the SAT senior year and got a 1800 combined.

On an more direct note, take the SAT again, and don't post the essay, it could get stolen. Work with your english teacher to get a good essay. Don't do the 6 year track. You'll skip out on college-the glory days. Also, unfortunately with those scores, you probably won't be eligible for those fast track 6 yr BS/MD programs. So just take it slow. You'll be grateful you did. No extra curriculars huh? Join student government or NHS. There's tons of stuff you can jump in mid ship during the school year.

That score is about equivalent to what you got on the SAT. The organization that makes the ACT says that an 18 is equivalent to an 870 SAT with CR+M.

It'd be tough to get into a 4-year college with those scores. Since you have a decent hs gpa, consider going to a community college and then transferring.

To put it bluntly, it's going to be difficult to get into a 4 year university with an ACT score like that let alone get into a combined BS-MD/DO program. I'm sure whatever schools you're applying to have their average ACT for admitted undergrads listed online.

Of the combined programs I know of, an ACT of 31+ is highly recommended.

OP, do not post your essay publicly anywhere. See what I did with this quote?

I would apply to SAT optional Liberal Arts Colleges, Connecticut College, Holy Cross in Massachussets, Denison in Ohio and various other ones throughout the country.

I already sent my essay to one school and I'm planning on sending it to the others. The thing is time is against me. It's too late for the Jan SAT plus I wont have enough time to study so that leaves March. But by then, all the seats would have been filled already and it will be too late for admission. So my college advisor saids to call up the schools and speak to them personally about this and try to explain things to them.

Also there really aren't any SAT optional liberal arts colleges in Upstate New York.

The thing is I can try for EOP which will make colleges lower their standards for me but I hear EOP is highly selective and my gpa's too high for that.

Plus I've given up on the combined thing. I'm going to go the 4 + 4 + 2 route.
