i know GPA and DAT are the main determining factors of admission.

i was wondering competing in division 2 rowing would make my application look any stronger. i'm not a great athlete. i'm only doing it to stay fit and to keep myself busy. the crew practice usually doesn't conflict with my classes, except that i have practice in the morning from 5:30 - 7:30.

I was D1 soccer and it didnt help much but who knows maybe they weren't a soccer fan 🙂

If the classroom was flooded, you can bet that the faculty and fellow students would prefer to have you on their team.

i swim and hold records at my school and every interview has asked about it and commended me for keeping a great gpa while being an atlete

if the room was flooded during the interview, i can bet that the interviewers would prefer to have me in their school. 😎

anything that might set you apart from the typical applicant will help. i've had many interviews where they have asked me about my music, art, breakdancing, and all the other random things i've done, and these topics will definitely make you more memorable

but will i get to the interview? when dental schools invite for interview, do they base the invite solely on GPA and DAT?

definite "+" to the application.

and no, being a rower will not get you an interview, it only adds to your overall character and sets you apart. it is something to talk about at the interview if you get it. i spent over 5 min talking about my experience playing ncaa football with my interviewer.

good luck.

For sure its a plus! It gives you strength of character, time management skills, team skills, leadership skills... the list goes on and on! Milk it for all its worth! 🙂

I think it only helps if you can talk about what you learned from it, or what you learned about yourself from partaking in the activity.
