Hi, I am an international student, and I applied to Colorado University. Anyway, as I don't know clearly whether they will consider international applicants or not, I just submiited my Application to the School. I've had interest in this school, of course.

Today, I got a letter saying I don't have to send application fee and supplemental forms.
Plus, they will not consider me as an active applicant.

They mentioned they will consider Colorado residents in priority, but will also consider out of Colorado residents (Including Wiche eligible students) next.

Based on your experience of application process & information,

did I got my first rejection letter? :slap:
Or did I knock the wrong door?

Anyway, the school and place looks great! I am very sorry to hear that I am no more an acitve applicant of Colorado University!

Do they request application fee and supplemental forms when an applicant is invited for interview? Or, it's just the next step to complete ur application?

Call the school and clarify the letter. It is always better to hear it from the horses mouth than from those that speculate.

But, meanwhile, I just want to hear from members in SDN.

Anyway, I have to wait a few days to make a phone call.:scared:

(Actually, scary~to hear I am "just" REJECTED!)

I believe there are tons of applicants applying to Colorado University. If they are supposed to send those supplemental forms and application fee only when they are invited for interview, then I can fully understand my application status at the school.

Nobody applying to Colorado University? Did u send those supplemental forms only after recieving the invitation letter? Or, just hear to send them without invitation letter?

Sounds like a rejection. I know Colorado sticks to it's guns about accepting residents and wiche applicants. I applied last year and was denied (non-resident) and didn't bother to apply this year. Some schools are just very specific in what they want, for example I was rejected from Iowa last year before they even saw my DAT scores. My GPA back then was around a 3.4. I would have had to had a GPA of >3.6 as a non-resident applicant to get looked at. It kind of sucks not having a state school to apply to. Good luck though, looking at your stats I hope you are not applying to the same schools I am! At least they were more subtle than LLU's, "...we have determined you are not a competitive applicant"-that was my favorite from last years rejections.

DUDE, I was going to post a thread with the exact same question. I got an email from them this morning.

The University of Colorado Denver School of Dental Medicine is pleased to have received your application from the American Dental Education Association (ADEA).

As a state supported institution, strong preference for admission to dental school is given to Colorado residents. This year we will be accepting 52 students into the entering class of 2009. The majority of students will be selected from the applicant pool of legal residents of Colorado. The remaining eligible students will be selected from outside the state of Colorado which includes WICHE eligible applicants.

Many fine applicants compete for a limited number of positions. In recognition of these constraints we will no longer be considering you as an active applicant and will not require from you further information or fees.

If you have any questions concerning the above, please contact me at 303-724-7122. I will discuss this matter with you further if you so desire. In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck in your pursuit of a dental career.

Sincerely,

Randy Kluender, D.D.S., M.S.
Associate Dean for Admissions

In my book it doesn't really count as rejection, so my ego isn't really bruised. I want to be pissed off at them, but it's not like they took my money and then said, "Thanks for the moolah but you don't have a shot in hell." I'm going to write it off as knocking on the wrong door (I'm a California resident), and keep my fingers crossed for my other schools.

Did anyone who is NOT from Colorado or a WICHE state NOT get this email?

We were told that the average GPA of our entering class was 3.7 (DAT?) There are some classmates that I know of from AZ that didn't get WICHE and have average DAT scores. Small got in here and he's from Indiana (of course he does have high DAT scores as well). Its possible to get in. Its an awesome school and its cool to have a small class. Denver is one of the best places to live. So glad I chose CU!!!

international student with F-1 visa? (Not advanced program, but first year DDS/DMD program)

In fact, there is no clue to know about it according to their website. I also tried to contact with them a lot of times, but failed to hear the answer.

I've received a snail mail from UNMC saying that they received my AADSAS application and send application fee them. (I'm not a NE resident.) Just wondering... Is a good sign that I'm considered for interview? or what?

While this doesn't directly apply to the school you mentioned, when I was applying, all but 1 school requested a secondary fee immediately upon getting my AADSAS just to "review" my application. Just because you get a request for an application fee doesn't necessarily mean you're getting an interview.

In fact, I sent in the secondary application fee to one school and within a week I had received a rejection letter. They never had any intention of giving me an interview, they just wanted my money. Still kinda pisses me off when I think about it. Fortunately, it wasn't my 1st choice of schools.

got the same email as well..i was a bit surprised..didn't realize they only accepted 52 students and felt so strongly about in-state applicants..they didn't even receive my DAT scores(just sent them out)..felt like it was a waste applying there..but it sounds like this is occurring alot 🙁

Sounds like this one is not my first rejection letter. 😛

They don't consider international students...I didn't know that as I couldn't find about this on their website.

Thanks for the asnwer! 👍

Hm..let me see if I had applied to another one, which doesn't consider international students..

BTW, according to their e-mail notification, they do consider out-of-staters...And I think I am not in this case!! OK~~~

However, I doubt if they don't consider international students without exception unless I see anything about this on their website!

Like Golfer said, Colorado accepts mostly in-state and people from WICHE states, with some exceptions. I'm from Indiana, I've met someone from NY, and I'm sure there are others. Our class has 52, quite a few WICHE (but not everyone is fortunate enough to get funding from their state), mostly Colorado people. The rejection email will say "NO THANK YOU," so you'll know when you get officially rejected 'cause you'll probably be pissed at how rude that sounds. If you didn't see those three words, you're not out yet. I didn't get a call until Feb. for an interview. Colorado seems very slow about getting info out. Actually, I think I remember getting that same letter about most students accepted coming from Colorado and all.

Colorado is an awesome school, and I have no regrets about coming here over my state school (Indiana). The students are cool, the faculty seem cool, Denver is cool, and the campus is, well, cool. Your class is small (which is nice), but there are med students, pharm students, nursing students, etc. all over the place. I professional atmosphere just can't be beat. There are all sorts of people, but our class (and the rest of the dental school, it seems) is ready to help each other out. Talk about love. Denver is also very family-friendly and affordable. There's no place better, in my humble opinion, so don't count yourself out yet!

Oh, we also have a big International Program for foreign-trained dentists. Great school.

Good words of encouragement but how do you jump from "you are no longer considered an active applicant" to don't consider yourself out of the running?

I got the same email on July 25th, then the "rejection" email on August 22.

Finally, my first interview will begin soon~

By the way, the seat available at Colorado University seems to be too small~

I noticed
1. Harvard
2. Uconn
3. Stony Brook
4. Colorado

Have very small seats available!

Good luck at other schools, too!
