Hi everyone, first time poster! Due to logistics, I can attend either my Johns Hopkins or my Colorado Children's interview. I know in terms of "livability," Colorado probably is better in terms of cost of living and safety - but was hoping for some help in comparing the merits of both programs. I'm interested in possibly doing fellowship, but want good gen peds training and also dont want a program that is super intense - definitely want some work-life balance and nothing cutthroat. Thanks for any help! 🙂

during my interview at hopkins, the tour guide kept pointing out places she goes to cry so there's that. But the hospital is awesome, and the city is way cleaner than I thought it would be

Come to Hopkins. Worklife balance is a priority and the culture of the hospital is a huge asset to trainees. Baltimore is a fun city-- and training here opens all doors of opportunity. Good luck.

If you follow this link you will find EXCEL tables showing the amount of NIH funding by department at US medical schools.

Denver consistently ranks number 1 in NIH pediatric funding. In 2014 Denver exceeded Hopkins' NIH funding by almost $22 million.
With that kind of research dominance how can Hopkins open any more doors for you than Denver?

I'm not convinced that those numbers mean a whole lot. Both institutions are fantastic, do great research, and will open doors. I'd personally rather live in Denver (sorry Michigangirl!), but you really can't go wrong. What you need are details into the schedule, work life balance, and a sense of how the program runs. Michigangirl is a fantastic resource, but you can probably get in touch with some Denver residents to compare notes if you look for emails.
