Hey everyone,

Long time reader, first time poster. I've seen quite a few threads about the Amgen program, but was wondering what the chances are of getting into Columbia's program if a mentor were to select you. I'm not from Columbia, so I understand I'll be competing for the coveted 12-15 spots. Did anyone else who applied to Columbia Amgen get an email saying that a mentor had selected them?

It would appear you are not an MD/PHD student.

Whoops changed it. I'm a premed hoping to get an MD/PhD.

I received my acceptance email from Columbia amgen on 3/2. Thought you'd like to know. I also received an email regarding a faculty member interested in mentoring me. wooo!

I applied to the Columbia Amgen as well, and received an email almost two weeks ago that a professor was interested in mentoring me. I have no idea what this means though...but it can't be a bad thing right? I just wished they would've not emailed me at all if anything and assumed I would work for anybody (which is true). Now I'm going nuts trying to figure out what it means. But if I don't get notified in this week, I guess I should take that as a "no thanks"

It said on the FAQ that it doesn't mean you got in..it means you made it through the preliminary rounds. So congrats so far!👍

From Columbia's FAQ

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]19) I received an email stating that a mentor was interested in my application; Does this mean that I have been accepted into the program?
.
No. If you receive an email from the program coordinator or potential mentor, this does not guarantee your acceptance into the program. This email is only a preliminary part of the selection process, and your application must pass several more hurdles before we can officially offer you the fellowship.
