I live in California and was invited for an interview at Columbia. I also applied to NYU and other schools on the east coast (i.e. BU, Temple, UPenn). Should I call these other schools and ask about my interview chances since I don't want to spend the money to make 4 or 5 trips across the country? Would telling them that I have an interview at Columbia and about my desire to save money hurt my chances?

i dont necessarily think it will hurt your chances, but they like taking their sweet time to make decisions. i don't think trying to force/push for an interview will look good, but honestly its just trying to save a buck. i suppose calling and asking about when they make the decision about you wouldn't be that bad.

I was in the same shoe few days ago. I called NYU about my interview. The lady was very polite but wasn't able to provide any information over the phone. I had to wait for the email from NYU. STill, call them. It may be different for you. Give it a try.

I am at cal, and I am waiting for BU or tufts give me interviews. Ticket to NY is not cheap at all, so I wish I could fly once and get the interview chance. When is ur columbia interviews?? Maybe we are at same day!

My interview's on September 19th, which is coming up pretty soon! I think I'll call NYU and BU tomorrow. Thanks for the advice guys!

If you guys dont mind, what were your scores (GPA/DAT) for the 2009 cycle. I'm from Cali and waiting to hear from Columbia and NYU

I'm pretty much middle of the rung, so I'm REALLY surprised that I got an interview invite, especially from Columbia! My application isn't even complete because AADSAS has yet to send out all my LORs.

s-GPA 3.22, o-GPA 3.39, AA 22, TS 21, PAT 24

Don't worry...I'm not very competitive. I'm sure you'll get your interviews soon!

i had the same problem except I have to fly from the east coast to arizona. I got an invitation from Midwestern so I booked my flight. a few days later I got an invitation from ADSOH and luckily they had an interview spot the same week. So i had to pay 100 more to add another day on my trip. Plus the rental car that i must get to travel to both schools and the 2 hotels.

and i just got an invitation to loma linda so there goes another 200-300

I agree, this interviewing process is getting expensive but at least we are getting the chance to. I call it the 'investment before the big investment'

Yeah, I'm not complaining at all about getting an interview. I just want to minimize the amount of credit card debt I have before the $200,000 loans! (If I get accepted, that is....)

I just visited Columbia today and Kelly told me that they are only up to last name F, so don't worry too much.

She said it's still very early in the decision process so it will take awhile to get through all the applications. oh yea, she showed me the apps. in the boxes... kkk

Columbia's reviewing apps in order of last name?

that's what I was told today. But your app. has to be complete even to be reviewed.

Actually, I got really lucky today because mine was done but it was still in the cabinet with 23902039032 applications, but she took it out of the cabinet to be reviewed.

She told me it will still take awhile because the admissions director is still at letter F.

I am just sharing what I was told today. Not 100% sure.

Really? I called them on Wednesday, and they said mine will be transferred to the committee by the end of this week. But, if they are really at letter F, I may have to wait a little longer than I expected. Oh, well. 😎

you'll probably hear from them within a couple of weeks. That was the quote I got today.

oh yea, for those of you going for the interview, just wanted to let you know that people were extremely friendly down there.

Coincidentally, I got lost today at the campus but somehow ended up meeting the director of security at Columbia and she gave me a ride and a free tour around the campus. That was an unexpected pleasant experience.

Wait. I remember that jlee1986 got his invite about 2 weeks ago. Apparently, his last name starts with letter L! 😕

And my application isn't complete, yet they still gave me an interview....
