Both are good. Cheaper and convenience decides the winner here.

Out of the two, I would choose Columbia.

But I agree with the above poster.

Your state school.

Paying $240,000 for a Biology degree isn't exactly a smart financial decision.

NYU if you can afford it. Columbia if you like a cut-throat culture. Both would actually be my LAST choices for pre-med. But if I were in your position, I would go to Columbia, which at least gives good finacial aid for families less than 100,000 dollar income.

personally I would choose columbia. I would expect them to be cheaper if you have need (correct me if i'm wrong because I don't have any statistics and am too sleepy atm to look any up , but I've always heard how NYU costs sooo much), plus it's more prestigious at least imo. Of course fit matters, but I can't judge that for you.

Columbia if I had to choose. But as others have states, paying for Columbia should be much greater than paying for your state school and your degree if you're planning on going to med school will be the same. State school is cheaper and will save you alot of money in the long run

I am actually part of a program that will pay full tuition for either of these schools for undergrad if I get accepted! 🙂 Thanks everybody!

Why do you say they would be your last choices? Like I said before, I am actually part of a program that will pay full tuition for undergrad for either of these schools (and many others) if I get accepted🙂 thanks!

with that said, definitely columbia. just my .02

They would be my last choices because they are both known to have extremely competitive pre-meds, as with most colleges. Columbia especially. The resources (ex: research opportunities) will probably be better at Columbia, but you should research/visit both colleges. Columbia has the prestige factor going for it, but NYU is still a great school!

P.S. Maybe you want to repeat this question once you get accepted? :poke:

I know you're asking this from the standpoint of which school is better for pre-med, but you have to pick the school that's the right fit for you instead. I say that because those two schools have COMPLETELY different cultures! They're both in New York, but you're going to have very different atmospheres at the two. If you're going for prestige and prep, Columbia. NYU is more hipster and if you can get into both schools, you'll probably be one of the stop students at NYU. I'm guessing you haven't gotten into either yet, so I would wait until that happens for you to make a decision ahaha
