Hello.

I'm new to the forum and hoping you can chime in on my chances of being admitted to the Columbia Postbacc Premed Program. I am a recent Harvard College graduate. I concentrated in economics/health policy, and am currently working in related independent research.

I have applied to the Program for Spring 2009. My concern is that I took the majority of prereq courses as a first and second year in college (four in total that could count). In my sophomore year, I was forced to take a leave of absence for medical reasons, and this had a very negative impact on my science studies. I abandoned the premed track thereafter. I hope to take the courses I have not completed and repeat those that were affected during that time.

I also attended an information session recently that appeared to stress that the strict bar against students who have take more than a few science courses is much more "flexible" in reality. What are your thoughts on my chances? Your experiences?

Thank you very much,

Sofia

Don't worry, 4 classes won't disqualify you from the program. When I started the program I had already taken 7 out of the 14 requirements through my engineering curriculum. In fact many people with similar backgrounds stay in the program for only one year (Usually the Orgo-Bio year). If you have other specific questions you can set up an appointment with Dean Rogers. He's very passionate and friendly and will answer any questions or concerns you might have about the program and your future path.

Good luck
