I was just wondering how anyone attacked this section of the Columbia secondary. It says to not use enter and enter them as a list using commas, with a limit of 759 chars. So did everyone just list what they were, without giving any kind of description?

Corollary to this, what would you count as "extracurricular"? Does this include volunteering, research, sports, etc? Because I guess it could be interpreted loosely as anything outside of class, or strictly as anything not school related.

Hey FaytlND,
I basically listed my extracurricular activities and explained in as few words as possible. I followed a format of "extracurricular activity, date" and just had a new activity on each line (which only counts as 2 characters for a hard return). I counted all of hte experiences you mentioned as extracurricular - i put down dj'ing and music stuff in addition to research, shadowing...the typical premed lineup of activities.

I hope that helps! By the way, what the hell is up with those random character limits? 759?!

Indeed, someone in Columbia's IT department decided to have a little fun. Thanks for the input.

I just listed them, no dates, no length, no nothing. My friend also listed them but he included dates. I figure you can't go wrong with following the instructions perfectly and I think it's just a quick section for them to scan through just to make sure you did SOMETHING and maybe ask you, "oh so what is this activity you wrote down." during an interview. There's no point in rewriting exactly what's on your AMCAS descriptions.

**** **** **** **** ****!!! i did not list mine how did i miss that?!?!? i wrote a goddamn paragraph and was wondering how in this world they were expecting me to fit it in with only 759 characters...guess i can kiss columbia good bye 🙁
