Hi,

First I would like to say hello,my name is Migue and I am new to the forum. I have an interesting situation to say the least, I am Panamanian but have lived in the States, I do not want to practice in the States but can not afford to go to school the UK, Australia or Ireland so I am attending school at Columbus University College of Medicine in Panama.

There is only one post from 2009 with some dated information So I thought I would update this information first and then get to my question. Columbus University is Recognized by WHO, ECFMG, IMED and ISO 9001-2000 Certified and Tuition is around 12000 USD a year, "They say" they have affiliation with 15 hospitals in the US and prepare you for the USMLE and help get you matched in the States.

They also have year long Fast track pre-med program (don't shoot me I'm just the messenger) so the entire program is 5 years if you attend pre-med, If you need math and language skills you would need an extra year of pre-med. They don't require the MCAT or Entrance exam. Diplomas will be issued under the University of Panama (thats a good thing) in the near future.

(Disclaimer) I do not work for the school, nor was I paid to post this information. I just thought the updated info would be useful.

Now on to my question, I am a Nontrad student with US education attending Medical school (1st year) in Panama. I do not want to practice in Panama or the States and as I mentioned before I can not afford to go to school anywhere else except Romania or Czech Republic.

I have read here on the forums that it is impossible to get a residency in the UK or any other place for that matter. I don't believe its impossible but I know what they are getting at. in the UK you need to take the PlAB and then I would be placed behind UK citizen students,EU citizen students, Foreign UK Grads and Foreign EU Grads. I would like to take the path of least resistance but thats not in my character...

My end goal is to work abroad in the UAE (In Gulf) or Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. So residency in the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Spain or France (I speak English, French and Spanish) would be what I'm shooting for.

Has anyone had this experience? or does anyone have any constructive advice for me? any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Miguel
