COMLEX Level 3 Timing

Does level 3 need to be completed by the end of intern year? My program is telling me I can take it any time before my PTL expires, but that would actually be in my third year.. (not that I plan to wait that long).

Any bone wizards got any insight on this? Thanks!

I took it midway through PGY-2 back when I was an IM resident

It's completely up to your program. You'll need it when you apply for a full license. You also shouldn't let more than 7 years pass between L1 and L3. Don't put it off too long - you'll be studying for ABFM boards, etc. And if you put it off too long and then an emergency comes up - no one will give you any flexibility.
