Someone set me straight on the tests required of DO students. I know it is the COMLEX, but how many steps? I heard there's only 2 steps as opposed to the 3 steps for the USMLE. Do D.O. students have to take the USMLE? What's the procedure?

Hey asilvey

COMLEX has 3 steps, just like USMLE
The first COMLEX is usually taken ~ end 2nd
year medical school. COMLEX step2 is taken 4th year of medical school. The final exam is taken during the internship.

No students don't have to take the USMLE unless they practice in Louisiana (apparently). A full discussion is actually on this site at: http://www.studentdoctor.net/do/comlex.html

have fun
