Which do you guys think would be the best choice for a person not knowing whether or not to do a fellowship after residency?

EVMS seemed chilled out when I went there. One resident told me that on one of his rotations he would come in, write notes, and then leave before the attending came in. 😱 This would be no problem. They tend to give a huge break to non-traditional (older) applicants there. Weather is good, perhaps best in Eastern U.S. Residents rarely came in during home call. One downside is that some people had trouble getting enough EMG experience.

Wouldn't that speak poorly of the training if that takes place often? It seems like it is a fine balance between being "worked" to learn and become competent, vs. being left out to the wind yourself and not really being taught. Maybe I am off basis.

I ask because I have had some difficulty in deciding between programs and I dont know what I want to do within the realm of PM&R, so I dont know which areas of the programs to focus on (strong Sports, procedures, peds experience, etc).
I am not the most competitive applicant so it doesnt worry me that these are not top tier, but I still want to make the best decision. Im having a hard time finding constructive negative information that I can use to balance the positives.

This was a few years back, but I liked EVMS. I had it ranked high up on my list. The attendings are friendly, and laid-back from what I could tell during the interview. It seemed like the training was solid. As someone else commented, the work load is not bad, but you will learn what you need to learn. I remember Peds PM & R was strong there. Didactics seemed strong. I can't recall how strong they were in procedures, and EMGs anymore, so you will have to look into that. If you do a search, there is a pretty solid review done of the place in a previous year (it may even be by me, I don't remember).
I did not like Case/Metro, that's all I will say about it, but to each their own. U of Ark seemed like a solid program as well. I did not interview at any of the other places for PM & R. I did interview at UT Southwestern when I was interested in anesthesiology, and the hospital seemed very solid. I believe they have a Anesthesiology based pain fellowship if I remember correctly (check it out on Freida or go to their website). Their anesthesiology program was very good in my opinion. Ultimately, I decided PM & R was a better fit for me than anesthesiology.

Rehab sports md might have a few opinions about Arkansas - PM him to see if he is willing to share his insights
