Ideally you would have been shadowing a dentist for about 30-50 hours and get one from them. It is still not too late to start shadowing. 2x a week full day adds up quickly to 50 hours.

Ask a dentist:

I would like to shadow you to see what dentistry is all about. I need about 50 shadowing hours. This would take __ weeks of me coming in __ times a week for ____ hours. Could I shadow you and then at the end of shadowing if you feel comfortable with it, could you write me a letter of recommendation?

good luck

A lot of schools require one from a dentist. Have you ever shadowed before or worked in the dental field? It's definitley something you have to do if you even want to be considered for dental school.
