Hey

Does anyone know the Oxidizing and reducing agents that we should know/recognize for the MCAT?
So far I have
Reducing: LiAlH, NaBH4, DiBAlH, H2 with Ni and H2 with Pd
Oxidizing: KMnO4 ......

What others....?

Also consider guessing based on your start reagent's level of oxidation, if you seriously have no clue. I'm sure there are plenty of online resources condensed oxidation/reduction trends for ochem.

What others have said..but memorize significant ones..such as PCC and NaBH4...PCC can't oxidize to carboxylic acids..and NaBH4 can't reduce carboxylic acids/esters.

Thank you! All of these were super helpful

At a cursory glance you can see that oxidizing agents contain oxygen, and reducing agents contain hydrogen. It's best not to directly memorize them, but rather understand what these concepts mean.

Banco, you're awesome
