Hi guys! I noticed that that some people are asking some common questions regarding the application process even at this time of the cycle. I've listed a few things that I'll just like to clear up. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD TO THIS LIST!! 😀

Everything you need to know about the AADSAS application is found on the ADEA website. So please read about the application process before you apply.

1. How long is the personal statement?
4,500 characters (includes spaces)

2. Where do I get the supplemental material?
Go to your AADASAS application and click on your "Dental School Destinations" section. Click on the supplemental information link, and it will redirect you to the ADEA page for that particular school. Some schools ask that you submit your supplemental at the time you submit your AADSAS. Some ask you to submit it after they contact you. Not all supplementals will be available to you immediately. Some schools will email their supplemental to you. However, please read the supplemental directions/information on each of the school's website. Make sure that you send your checks, too! These are different than the payment that you made for your AADSAS application.

3. Do I just make the checks payable to the name of each school?
No. On each of the schools' websites, they specifically mention who to make it payable to. Sometimes, it is just made out to the name of the school. Sometimes, not. Several schools have you make an online payment (Ex: Case) rather than a check.

4. When is my application considered complete?
It is complete when you have sent in your AADSAS, supplemental material, payment, and photo (not all schools request a photo).

5. How long does it take for my GPA to get verified & when?
It will get verified AFTER you submit your AADSAS application. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for verification depending on the volume of applicants during the time you submit. Some people actually had their GPA's calculated a few days after submission.

6. How long does it take for a school to process my application?
Assuming that you already submitted your supplemental material, it can take 2-4 weeks and even longer. I say this because if you apply early, some of the dental schools might not even start reviewing applications until September or October.

7. What are common interview questions that I may be asked?
Check out the SDN Interview Feedback page. It has a list of schools and questions that have been asked in the past.

8. Do all schools update on AADSAS?
No. Some schools do, others will notify you via email.

9. What is proper interview attire?
Please search the threads for this question. Generally, stay conservative and look clean. Many people have different opinions about what to wear. Use your best judgement. Two important things to note: 1) wear close toed shoes (girls) 2) wear black socks, not white ones (guys)

10. Do schools grants interviews based on GPA and DAT as filters?
Every school varies. Some schools do use GPA and DATs for screening applicants, but others look at your entire application as a whole.

11. Do I need research?
No

12. People have already received interview invites from the schools I applied to, but I haven't received anything. Does that mean I am going to get rejected?
No. They may have not even looked at your application yet, could have placed it in the maybe pile for later, or will reject you.

13. I have a very low GPA, what should I do?
Depending on your stats, you may need to retake your classes or do a post-bacc.

14. How many/what kind of LORs should I get?
It depends on the school. I suggest that you visit each of the school's websites.

15. How many hours of dental shadowing do I need?
Many people have different opinions on this, but I recommend 100 hrs. I had a friend who got into dental school with only 30 hours. Check each school if they have a minimum.

16. Which schools should I pick?
It depends on your interests and your priorities. There is a thread at the top of the pre-dental page that talks about which schools to pick. It's very resourceful 🙂
