Hello all,

I want to thank everyone who can provide me with advice on how I should proceed forward. I really have no where else to go but this community, so thank you so much!

I'll keep this short. I was accepted into the University of Chicago as a non-degree seeking student and planned on doing a "do it yourself" pre-med post-bacc. After a lot of research into the school, I've determined perhaps taking courses at UofC is not a good idea, mainly because the school's reputation for "grade deflation", or, in other words, giving students lower grades than what they arguably could/should have earned. Can anyone attest to this? Secondly, the area of Chicago that the school is located in, Hyde Park, is incredibly unsafe and run down, despite the universities efforts to help curb crime.

My GPA, (2.89), is far too low to get accepted to any of the good formal post bacc programs. I was hoping I could take basic pre-med science courses at a community college to prove to formal post-bacc admissions committees that I can perform well academically. Also, while going to school, I'd take the GRE and hopefully score high enough to impress the adcoms. This would give them another reason to give me a chance. Has this been done before?

Again, thanks to everyone who provide me with any support. Thanks!
