Hi guys,
So I'm applying for this coming cycle. I have shadowed a dentist for almost a year, but I haven't done any community service since high school. Should I do community service next year since I'm graduating this May? If I do, how will I be able to let the schools know that I have been volunteering?
Just FYI: GPA 3.37, DAT 21/21/25

I would recommend getting hooked up with community service as soon as possible. Get some hours under your belt before june so that you can put it on your application...I believe they ask for a time from "when you began" and "when it ended". If you are start soon you can put that as your beginning date and put a future date like sometime late this year or next year as your end date (as long as you intend to volunteer that long).

Then later in the cycle (august), if you have not heard back from a school you can call and see if they will let you update the service hours. I know I did this for indiana and a few other schools and they were glad to update my application. Just don't do it every week😉

whats the point of volunteering after you apply? The whole point of volunteering is that you show some hours in AADSAS, right? Now if you want to volunteer because your a good person, by all means, you can do that whenever, but I don't think you can specify "future" volunteering in AADSAS.

I don't remember if there was a section in aadsas that basically lets them know you will be volunteering in the near future..

How many volunteering hours did you have in high school? If you had enough, you are probably fine to apply. Your numbers are stellar 👍

I did 100+ hrs volunteering in a hospital in 2006.
So it's useless to volunteer after June? I'm in Maryland and I know UMB is big on community service...

You still have a couple of months to get in various volunteer activities until you submit your application. There are endless opportunities out there, so you shouldn't have problems finding something. You should also continue after you submit your application and see if you can send updates to schools that will allow this.

heck dude, habitat for humanity is ALWAYS accepting volunteers, its one of my favorit outdoor activities (aside from recreational shooting). You can start as early as next week I bet.
