I just saw this story and wondered if any of you had faculty or fellow students who were on this plane.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/10/21/crash.survivor/index.html

It would be nice if the osteopathic community could reach out to these folks right now, as most of the people on the flight were headed to KCOM for a conference.

One of the two survivors was a former anatomy instructor at KCOM who was treated in the ER by a former student...

Any information or addresses to send cards would be appreciated.

Here is what our university president, Dr. James McGovern, sent to us today:

"Valued members of the KCOM faculty and staff were injured or lost in
Tuesday evening's tragic plane crash in Kirksville. *These educators
and staff were coming to Kirksville for a day of faculty development in
compassionate care and humanism in medicine, sponsored by the Arnold P.
Gold Foundation, as well as to meet with KCOM students.

As the KCOM family comes together during this difficult time, please
keep these individuals and their families in your thoughts and prayers.
Each person contributed greatly to osteopathic medicine and the KCOM
family through their role with the College.

Thankfully and miraculously, there are two surviving passengers: John
Krogh, Ph.D., administrative dean, KCOM Utah region, and Wendy Bonham,
coordinator, KCOM Utah region.

With regret, the plane crash claimed the lives of the following
individuals from within the KCOM family: Clark Ator, D.O., assistant
regional dean, KCOM Utah region; Judith Diffenderfer, D.O., DSME, KCOM
Michigan region; Kathleen Gebard, KCOM Ohio region; Toni Sarantino,
coordinator, KCOM Ohio region; Mark Varidin, D.O., FACOFP, PA, regional
assistant dean, KCOM Florida region; and M. Bridget Wagner, D.O.,
regional assistant dean, KCOM Ohio region.

Members of the Arnold P. Gold Foundation (traveling fellows) also lost
their lives in the crash: Steve Miller, M.D., and Richard Sarkin, M.D.,
Ed.M.

Other deceased passengers were: Rada Bronson, Matthew Johnson, Paul
Talley, Captain Kim Sassee, and First Officer Jonathan Palmer."

this is truly sad.

Just FYI, Kathie Gebard and Bridget Wagner were administrators for the OUCOM CORE hospital system of which KCOM is an affiliate. Kathie worked as CORE administrator for Grandview Hospital in Dayton and Dr. Wagner was CORE Assistant Dean for the NE Ohio region covering multiple hospitals. This has been a tough week for the OUCOM family as well. Keep the families of all the victims in your thoughts and prayers.
