Hey guys
I just wanted to get other peoples insight on this.
I have decided to attend my state dental school! I am torn between getting an apartment vs just living at home. I live 15/20 minutes from the dental school, I figured I could save some money this way and my parents and I get along so it wont be a problem. On the other hand I would want to get an apartment for at least the first year or two close to the school just so I can get adjusted to dental school a little bit more easily I guess and be around my classmates/future collegues a little bit more? I don't want to be the odd one out of the class as well I guess. Either way I will be fine. But what would you do?!?

From what I've heard, the first 2 years of dental school can be really brutal. 15-20 minutes isn't that far away. However, if you feel that it could affect your performance then by all means, get it. If money is a problem and you feel you need to get an apartment to save time, I would ask the D.S students at your state school which year they think you should get the apartment. From what I gather, 2nd year is usually the hardest at most schools. I would do it to save time for studying/lab work. I would not get the apartment simply because you feel you will be the "odd one out" or not be able to get to spend time. You can always go out to lunch or meet up on the weekends. I'm sure there will be many in your school who commute much longer than you have to.

Live at home! It'll save you so much money! Also, when you live at home you wont have to worry about cooking or cleaning, and that will ultimately save you valuable study time.

Home! Stay home! I'd give a left body part (not my money-making hands) to be 15-20 minutes away. I rock an hour WITH carpool. Luckily, D1 is the year of suck and that's all behind me. I agree with @lwen5. You'll see plenty of your new little family and being off campus and having a little decompress commute can be a good thing.

15/20 minutes is nothing. Stay at home--worth the $ you save.

Definitely stay home! If the school I'm attending were close to home, I wouldn't even think twice about it.
