COMP- Northwest Track

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i didn't even apply and they offered me a spot in it. i think they are having a tough time recruiting, so if you are from the northwest and have a pulse, they will let you in the program.

the only thing i'm concerned about is the fact that none of the staff have any idea what any of the rotation sites are yet. he said there was supposed to be a main site in portland, but that hospital closed!!! it'll be interesting to see what happens

Eastmoreland Osteopathic Hospital

will probably reopen soon under new management. they had a very profitable surgical ctr there so they should be back on line soon. they were closed because of poor investments by the owners at their other hospitals. it was not about eastmoreland per se. nice little hospital with a good d.o. community fp residency.

Does anyone have a complete list of hospitals affiliated with this program? I?ve asked the school to send more information about the Northwest tract; however, I haven?t received anything yet. Also, will we be required to travel back to Pomona much after the first two years?

they have no list of any of the places that we would be rotating at. they are still trying to figure that out...that's why they haven't sent you anything. as for going back to pomona, that would be a no. since there are fewer DO's in the northwest when compared to SoCal, they expect you to stay (and ultimately practice) in the northwest if you go into this program.

your core rotations have to be done in the northwest, it does not mean you cannot roate outside of the northwest or that you HAVE to do a residency in the northwest. It means they hope you do a residency in the northwest (especially since you rotated at so many nw hospitals).

The most recent rumor is that eastmoreland will not reopen. How that effects the northwest track I am unsure. Reed College bought the property to the hospital. Last I heard a group of doctors asked the college to lease the hospital to them for a couple years until they could build a new hospital, but the college turned them down.😡 Even if the hospital opens a lot will have changed. I know the OMM department wont return because they are setting up their own office.

However, they will still allow students to rotate through them.
