Comped out. Will ECFMG let me pick a certain date to take Step 1?

Hi guys, I just joined and this is my first post. Hope I'm doing it right lol. I'm a US IMG at a Caribbean med school, just finished M2 and just learned that I "comped out," which means I scored high enough on our school NBME to pass Step 1 with a 220 if I took it today, but that's misleading because our school only has a few versions of the NBME, and "study guides" have been floating around from previous students. (Realistically my score is more around 160 because that's what I scored when I took form 24 on my own).

Since I comped out, the school gave me 2 choices:

1. I can register now with ECFMG to take Step 1, and the school said I MUST take it by February 28, 2021, or
2. I can take our "5th semester" which starts in Jan. It's really a Step 1 prep course, and most students do it because it gives us until early June to take Step 1.

My main question is, if I decide to skip my 5th semester and take Step 1 by my February 28 due-date, will ECFMG allow me to pick the date that I want? (Because my school said that I have to give them the window of January-February). I mean, I'd be ok with them giving me a date in late February, but not January because I'm nowhere near ready.

I also wouldn't mind any opinions on whether or not I'm being dumb in thinking I can improve my score so much in 10 weeks. Maybe I should just do 5th semester and not risk failing Step? Thanks in advance!

I'm not an expert on IMGs, but if you're trying for a US residency, you'll need a really good score on Step 1 and 2. So, with that in mind, I would do anything you think would get you a better step score.

Thanks so much for your reply. I appreciate it... will focus on what to do to get a higher score
