Could an attending anesthesiologist please indicate what type of compensation arrangement anesthesiologists have?
Do most participate in HMOs, Physician-sponsored networks (PSNs), at-risk compensation, or non-risk compensation. Also, how much capitation generally occurs? Also what kind of fee schedules do anesthesiologists utilize: UCR (usual, customary, reasonable), RVUs (relative value units), RBRVS (resource based relatvie value system) , or is it tied to the CPT coding?
It seems to me that PSNs would allow for better leverage in terms of physician reimbursement. Could someone perhaps indicate why it (PSNs) arent done in Anesthesiology (if indeed they arent)?
Also, as you all know, HMOs have capitated services that PCPs ought to be able to perform. When the PCP refers to a specialist and not perform said procedure by themselves, the HMO may adversely reduce their PMPM (per member per month) allowance. Question is, in the future couldnt HMOs give negative incentives to the PCPs for referring to pain specialists?
Any source of enlightment of this matter would be great! 👍
thanks
