Any D.O's doing/did residency at Johns Hopkins? Mayo Clinic? Cleveland Clinic?Massachusetts General Hospital?


How do they assign slots for D.O's? How high do you have to score in your steps to get into their Internal Med programs? Grade importance?

During this past interview cycle I interviewed at some of the places you mention as well as some of the other "name" places and frankly, was not always very impressed. I think it's important to keep in mind that not everyone is looking for the same thing in a program, and it is probably wrong to look too much into match lists and institution names, particularly at osteopathic schools. Some of these places are really focused on producing academicians or are research-heavy, which is great if that's your goal, but for many of us it is not. I preferred a program that was very clinical in nature, where you will see and do everything in a variety of settings with a diverse patient population. I ranked the program where I ultimately matched higher than some of the "name" places b/c I thought it fit better with my career goals. This is why interpreting match lists is difficult...had I wanted one of the other places I likely could have gotten it.

That being said, as a DO you certainly can get these types of spots, but of course you have to work hard...strong grades and board scores, as well as research and letters of rec. Good luck.
