Ok, I have searched about this so bear with me.

I know it is pretty early to start thinking about this, but I am contemplating applying for SMDEP for next summer. Personally, I think I am a decent candidate, but I cannot find stats for accepted students. What makes a competitive cadidate for this program GPA and EC wise? Also, I will be applying as a sophomore, will they take into account SAT scores?

Thanks in advance.

I read in another thread that students with a 3.2-3.3 GPA can get accepted. I'm not too sure about SAT scores, though.

It's competitive, in that lots of students are applying for it, since it's a large program. But I feel that it's a program that places more emphasis on your essay than your stats. Just my two cents.

If I recall correctly, they asked for my SAT scores. 😕

I got accepted with a 3.7+ GPA. Chose not to go, as I was offered a research position at my school this summer.

Hmm, I hope they don't place too much emphasis on SAT scores. Mine were above average, but not near perfect.

I wonder if they take into account ECs and/or research publications. I am not URM or financially challenged; So, I will have to make up for that somewhere.
