Hey all,
So everyone says that socal residencies are more competitive than other residencies. I'm curious about how competitive the psych so-cal residencies are. I am M3 from low ranked, no name USA medical school, 210 step 1, no research. Let's say hypothetically I get mostly B's in my clerkships, with maybe 1 or 2 A's sprinkled in here and there (my school uses A-B-C). I know it's not enough for UCLA or UCSD probably. But I was wondering about the competitiveness of the other so-cal residencies.

I don't even know who would know the answer to this for sure, short of someone who is in one of these programs, but any help/advice would be appreciated.

Yes I know I just started 3rd year and this is kind of a freak out post but its good to know these things I guess. Thanks in advance for any advice!!

You remind me of myself a couple years back (you might even go to my med school - we used letter grades, too). UCLA and UCSD would be tough. UCI would also be a longshot because, while they are not the academic powerhouses the previous 2 are, it is pretty competitive because of the high percentage of their med school class that goes into psychiatry and the relative resident-friendliness of the program. Harbor, Cedars, USC, Bakersfield are probably more realistic and attainable.
