I recently attended COMP'S osteopathic awareness conference and thought the schools was great. I've heard some negative things about COMP on this site, but from what I saw it seemed like a great place to go to school. The director of admission seemed like a stern women. She'll smack your knuckles with a ruler if you pass a note in class, but other than that I had a great time. Who here has COMP #1 on their list and have you visited the school?

COMP isn't #1 on my list but I did go to a very informative OMAC last year! It was pretty darn cool, and got me more aware of Osteopathic Medicine, of which I will definitely apply into. Say, how was Dr. George Fields (I assume that he was there)? Did he show you guys and gals the hands-on part of Osteopathy?

Bio,

Dr. Fields wasn't there so we didn't get a chance to meet him. I walked out of there with a much clearer understanding of osteopathic medicine. I can't imagine being anything other than a DO. Dr. Seffinger spoke to us about OMM and his practice. He was pleasent and engaging. The students seemed happy to be there. I'm waiting for a couple of recommenders to get their evals in and hopefully I'll get an interview. 😛

I attended that conference in 2001 and loved it and the school. I was subsequently snubbed by COMP (abut 9 months post 2?) and was very offended by the crappy denial letter they sent me. Now, I'm in KC and having a ball 😀

COMP is definitely #1 on my list because they have an amazing program over there. The students and faculty also were extremely cordial and always willing to answer any question or concerns I had when I attended the Awareness Conference a few months back. I'm at UCLA's School of Public Health right now and our classes are held in the medical school and I gotta tell ya...COMP's facilities were so much more state-of-the-art than at the UCLA med school. I was absolutely shocked! Plus, being at a large university like UCLA for six years, I would love a change in environment at COMP. The med students at the school seem very tight-knit and you actually get some one-on-one attention. While shadowing Dr. Fields wife (also a DO), she confirmed this and told me that at COMP everyone was SO supportive!

Also, for those applying to COMP this year...make sure you call the admissions office and speak with your counselor. My counselor at COMP was Gloria Garcia and I spoke with her yesterday about the status of my application. She was very nice and explained that it was being reviewed by ADCOMs. She also gave me her direct phone line and e-mail and told me that I could contact her at anytime with any concerns about my ap. Then today I got a call from COMP inviting me for an interview!!

So get to know your counselor...I think that would really help during this process at COMP. 🙂

My counsler is Esther and she is great! She's the nicest lady and bends over backwards for you. 😀 I spoke with her today and we found a couple of glitches in my file. She faxed me paperwork 10 minutes later and we got it all straitened out. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for COMP.
